the in-laws of Nawar's family killed him. The village got rid of the
criminal, but the young boy had realized early on the meaning of
war and witnessed weapons inhabiting homes.

The boy moved from the village to the city to complete his studies
at the technical secondary school in Tanta, and his activity shifted
to sports because there were no scouts in those schools. He par-
ticipated in bicycle races. He considered the sport also to be relat-
ed to scouting, as each sport had to define its goal, and he found
a link between scouting, sports, and war, where they all share their
