* Art and Life and how to achieve them in works of Reda Abdul Salam

- I have met Reda - talked with him and listened. The process of neutralizing a work of art repeated many times - when we see a certain work of art of an artist for the first time in the absence of some information - I think it is very hard to judge this work if we do not know its creator. Hence I see that Reda`s history is closely related to the point especially that part which precedes his start in the world of art and in which he was a mechanist - then a solider - but after that he became a student in Faculty of Fine Arts. Reda says: `If a person does not know about life - he does not know art` - Reada found the opportunity to discover life which is one of the reasons behind my belief in his art.
- When we talk about art in Reda`s paintings - we find that a top priority of our subject must be - the frame. His gradual attempts towards restructuring the painted area is obvious in his first works in which he scattered colors on the frame of the painting in order to avoid the clear borders of the rectangular surface - and even at the stage when part of the frame was determined by colorful edges forming a contrast with the other parts of free formation. As for his last works - he ignores any borders of constructive formation. In his first works they were asymmetric - but his last works are heading towards non-formative in order to remove general stability of the surface - thus - the principle of internal organization of the painting is part of formation. He followed his own developed way based on an organized system that is asymmetric and vertical to reach a firm formation though lines` net do not follow any certain geometrical system - but comes from an internal prospect of a special meaning. For in this whole process one cannot only recognize the surface - but also the suggestive depth - and the several merged surfaces - and repeating it in pure mechanism adds to the last works of Reda a soul and meaning. In addition to his attempts to restructure the frame - he was struggling - and through combination of clear contrasts - Reda was one of the artists who tried since the beginning of 80`s to connect the old expertise with the new generation.
- In his paintings we will recognize - within the framework of general experience of what after the incident - the first trends of cubists especially that which remind us with Juan Greece - abstract impressionism from Bullock to Vedova - modern German savagery - non-formation - and trends beyond non-formation with some of the Islamic Art traditions (colors - human figure presence and special processing of the model).
- All these expertise are combined in a clear and distinguished entity - thus I feel that the art and works of Reda Abdul Salam are like a living creature non-restricted except by its own borders. He follows his own internal reason which is not overacted that is why it is genuine.
